![]() ![]() The blue rails and struts, which straddle the front section of the park, are a reminder that SeaWorld (which is for sale by Belgian beer maker ImBev, which acquired it last year when it swallowed Anheuser-Busch) may be drawing smaller crowds than Disney or Universal, but it’s still a contender in Orlando. SeaWorld’s water slide park, Aquatica, which opened last year, is a pale glimmer of what it was promised to be, but if Manta’s budget was slashed much, it doesn’t show. Stocked with stingrays, and there’s a second, more elaborate set of aquaria (octopi, sea horses) to rewards the wimps who can’t stomach the ![]() The waiting area is the best of any coaster in Orlando now, too: Instead of zig-zagging in the heat, riders file in pleasing AC past huge tanks (And unlike on Kraken, that doesn’t give you the knawing sensation that you’re about to lose a foot in the rails.) But on the bright side, you’re allowed to ride barefoot, which kicks up the sensation of flying. Not surprisingly, there’s an extra wait for it. Your Manta ride begins when you enter the rides. Riders are gripped around the ankles and over the shoulder by their seats, and just before leaving the station, they’re flipped comfortably onto their bellies to ride like Superman flies. If so then you need to take a ride on the only flying roller coaster of its kind, Manta at SeaWorld Orlando. Manta has a gimmick, but it’s an appropriate one that makes sense once you’re on it. Now, it’s creeping up on Universal for shameless thrills. Kraken, and now, with Manta, it’s got a second coaster with fangs. But then it added some adrenaline with floorless coaster A few years back, the park was the kind of place you might send your granny for the day - all gardens and corny sea lion shows. We just got off SeaWorld Orlando’s newest mega-coaster, Manta, and it’s a good one. ![]()
